Having any work done in your home by external contractors can be a daunting prospect. And, with the media far more interested in highlighting rogue traders over those companies that deliver a great service to their clients, it can be difficult to know you’re choosing the right people to help create a ‘Room of Distinction’ rather than a ‘Room of Ruination’!

At Harvey’s Select we understand how difficult the decision-making process can be, especially if it’s a new experience for you, With over 30 years of experience in helping clients transform their homes we’ve put together a set of answers to some questions we’re frequently asked. I want to change a room in my home but don’t know where to start!
We hear that far more often than you might think! Often people want to refresh a tired looking room or need to change the use or the size of a space but aren’t sure what will work. That’s where the experience of Harvey’s Select makes such a difference. Our designers will sit down with you to find out what you like – and don’t like – and crucially to establish how you intend to use the room both now and in the future. From there we can start looking at examples of rooms we’ve created, or things that you’ve been collating to get a better feel for your preferences.
What’s the process you follow?
Most of the projects we undertake in full for our clients tend to follow similar set of steps. We’ve created a simple infographic that shows our process from ‘Concept to Completion’. concepttocompletetion
Do I have to use your tradesmen for the installation?
Not at all, we offer two distinct but equally professional services.
  1. Where we carry out the whole project, from ‘Concept to Completion’. We undertake the design and installation using our trusted tradesmen, or
  2. Following the design process, we provide you with the chosen products and you can carry out the installation using whoever you choose. We recommend that you use only professional tradesmen for the installation, though our standard guarantees cover the products you purchase from us, whoever installs them.

How much disruption will there be and how long will it take for my new room?
Understandably any work in your home will cause a certain level of inconvenience to you. However we will limit this as much as possible by, where necessary, working flexibly to suit you and, where possible, isolating specific areas that we are working on. This isn’t always possible, especially where the project involves a high level of renovation or multiple rooms but we will do our best to enable you to carry on with your daily life during the work.

The disruption is also minimised by working to a scheduled timetable. Following the consultation with you, the design will be completed within two weeks. It will then be passed on to our UK manufacturers; this process can take between 2 and 10 weeks, but will vary depending on the scale of the project and also where the materials are sourced from. Once everything is with us, installation will take on average the following amount of time to complete:

  • Kitchen: 2-5 weeks
  • Bathroom: 2-3 weeks
  • Bedroom: 1-2 weeks

How much do you charge for an average kitchen/bathroom/bedroom?
Price can often be the ‘elephant in the room’, but in our opinion it really is the best place to start. When everyone knows what budget is available it’s much easier for us to meet your expectations when we put forward a design and specification proposal. We create bespoke rooms – that means we’ll never be able to compete with the bottom end of the market on price, and we choose not to. Our prices are very competitive and reflect the quality of service you receive from us, the work carried out and the materials, appliances and fixtures & fittings you choose. What we aim to do is to provide you with the very best room possible from the budget available and we’ll be open and honest with you throughout the whole process – with Harvey’s Select there are no nasty surprises at the end of the project.

The different materials and appliances available can make a huge difference to the overall price of a new room, especially kitchens, so we’ll take you through the options available to work within the budget.

Example prices of rooms created for clients in the last 12 months:

  • Kitchen – £6,000 – £45,000
  • Bathroom – £2,500 – £15,000
  • Bedroom – – £2,000 – £8,500

 

Do you offer payment plans?

Unfortunately we don’t offer payment plans.

What happens after installation?
This is where we differ from so many other suppliers and, why so many of our clients become repeat customers. From the products we supply through to the highly experienced craftsmen we use, we provide a service that is second to none. Despite this we know that you may have questions after the installation or need some advice on aftercare, and this Aftercare service is a key part of our guarantee to you.
Aftercare Packs

We provide bespoke aftercare packs for your new room. This goes into detail about the different materials used in your room, explains how to look after your chosen surfaces and also provides you with not just our contact number for queries but also that of the craftsmen that carried out the installation so, if there is something that needs doing, if required it can be addressed and carried out by the same person that initially fitted it until you are completely happy with it.

 

Warranties & Guarantees

  • Appliances come with manufacturer’s guarantees/warranties. If required we can help you fill these out.
  • Materials. For peace of mind we also offer lengthy guarantees on the materials we provide you with.
  • Workmanship. Where we carry out a complete design, supply and installation service we guarantee the workmanship for up to 1 year.

What other services do you provide?
To meet the requests of our customers Harvey’s Select can take on the whole of your project, including any extension, renovation or building work on any part of the house. In addition we can help with the ‘finishing’ jobs including: Decorating, electrics, plastering, tiling and even cleaning. That way you benefit from a single point of contact for the overall project, so you will avoid the issue of “the plasterer couldn’t start because the builders hadn’t finished”, as we oversee all trades for you. We know how frustrating dealing with multiple contractors can be and so we control the whole project to avoid any time consuming and potentially costly issues like these. When we project manage a complete job we only use trusted trades people that have been fitting our products for a number of years.
Are you the same company as HSK/Harvey’s Select Kitchens?
Yes we are. We’ve changed our trading name to reflect the fact that we now also do Bathrooms and bedrooms. This came about because some of our happy kitchen customers asked whether we could do other rooms for them, and we always listen to our customers!
